Anna Sollewijn Gelpke

Anna Sollewijn Gelpke is an Amsterdam-based jazz vocalist with influences from RnB, Pop, Soul and Fusion. After studying at the Junior Jazz College for two years, she advanced to the Bachelor of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she studied Jazz vocals. Besides being a singer, Anna is also a pianist and is heavily involved in arranging for vocal groups and bands. She also writes her own songs. She has her own vocal groups and jazz bands and has performed on various stages, such as Grachtenfestival, Newport Jazz Festival and the Bimhuis. Besides teaching voice at Platform C, Anna also works as a voice and choir teacher at the Amsterdam Singing Academy and the Spinoza Lyceum Amsterdam.

Anna has known our music department since childhood. Having started as a child with AMV with Laetitia Leemans, later choir lessons with Kees Sijbrandij and finally piano and ensemble playing with Örjan Graafman, she is by no means a stranger to Platform C. Anna went through the Jazz Voice within the Conservatory of Amsterdam and as of season 22-23 is teaching singing within our pop/jazz department.

Anna: "I like to adapt to my students' goals. I love working on the basic elements of singing with a student, such as technique, improvisation, repertoire, polyphonic singing and text interpretation. But most of all, what I want to achieve is for the student, using the basic elements, to seek out and experience the joy of singing! Teaching is an incredibly instructive way for me to convey that pleasure."
