The Amstelveen Triennial is a triennial event in which professional visual artists living or working in Amstelveen are given a stage. Since 1998 this event has been organized by the Cobra Museum and this year again in cooperation with Museum JAN and Platform C. From more than 60 entries, a jury consisting of employees of the aforementioned institutions chose the recent work of 21 artists.
Exhibition
The exhibition at the Cobra Museum shows the wealth of local art practices in all their diversity. In addition to veterans, the Amstelveen Triennial also shows surprising newcomers who together cover a wide range of artistic expression: from painting to installation and from video work to graphics. There is conceptual art in the guise of giant-size envelopes, but experiments with materials and traditional themes such as landscape and interiors are also represented. Content was also chosen for works that show an engagement with topics such as migration and language, which take shape in a wooden harness and a hard foam fist. There are also several paintings highlighting the theme of trauma and the role of the subconscious, in both figurative and more abstract translations.
