Dodó Kis (*1991, Budapest) is a Dutch-Hungarian recorder player, composer and educator known for her dynamic approach to music. She brings a multifaceted and innovative vision to both her performances and teaching practice. With a broad background in various genres of music - from early music to jazz, contemporary music and free improvisation - Dodó's performances and teaching practices transcend traditional boundaries. Dodó is trained in the Kodály method, the well-known Hungarian music teaching method, which she also applies in her own teaching practice.
With 15 years of teaching experience, Dodó is passionate about mentoring students of all ages and levels. She specializes in classical music, contemporary music and jazz improvisation, fostering her students' creativity and musical growth. In 2014, she developed a teaching methodology for children, using colors and abstract shapes instead of traditional notation to teach improvisation and composition techniques. This approach simultaneously activates different parts of the brain and encourages an intuitive and holistic understanding of music.
Between 2017 and 2022, Dodó taught at Fluxus Zaandam, and since 2021 she has taught at the Music School Waterland. Every year she teaches summer music courses in Hungary. As of 2023, she works at Platform C.
A graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music (MA, 2016), Dodó has positioned herself as a unique voice in the European music scene. She founded the interdisciplinary ensemble Trio aXolot, the genre-bending funk-rock band Jerboah and the dance band The Big Kiss. Her performances have taken her throughout Europe, the U.S. and Canada, where she has collaborated with renowned musicians at various festivals and venues.
