Ever since I can remember, I have always had a strong feeling for drawing. That feeling expanded into other media and materials, such as writing, textiles, animation, painting and teaching.
By teaching, I discover again and again what is so beautiful and important about art: experimenting, learning something new, and getting to know yourself by making. Teaching is translating; from a larger (art) history and my own experience as an artist to a clear story for the students. While teaching, everything comes together: collaboration, language, and the making process. A wonderful combination!
In my classes we look at different artists and nature. Using inspiring stories and images, you get to work, resulting in a drawing or painting that only you could have created. We learn new techniques, and in addition I pay close attention to the students' interests and experiences, so that everyone is challenged at his or her own level. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed; we chat, listen to music and have a cup of tea together.
My tips for students
Anyone can make art! When you make art, you show how you see the world: no one sees things exactly as you do. By making art, you invite others to take a peek into your world. That's what makes art so interesting.
Interests
Besides art, I also love discovering new music, bouldering, (vintage) fashion and cats.
Inspiring artists
Too many to mention! Among others: Henri Matisse, Ulla von Brandenburg, Gustav Klimt, Maurice Denis and Mamma Andersson
