Platform C has added a great new course: the Theaterworkplace for young people! Led by experienced theater teacher Sharon, who has worked with youth and children for many years, young people learn not only how to act, but also how to create their own scenes and dialogues. "The process begins with feeling," Sharon explains. "I first look at who is in the group, where their qualities lie and what they themselves feel like doing. Sometimes we work with a theme, sometimes with an existing piece or a book. It totally depends on the group."
The first weeks of the theaterworkplace
The first few weeks are all about experimentation. Sharon uses creative assignments to get the group going, such as having the players work from pictures, short dialogues or music. "The great thing is that there is no right or wrong in the beginning," she says. "Everything is allowed to be tried out. Then we start making choices and, as director, I work with the group toward a performance." During the process, participants discover how versatile theater can be.
In addition to developing acting skills, young people also learn what it's like to make something together. "You learn to listen, watch and be present - not only when you have text, but always," Sharon emphasizes. Having fun with the play is central and important: "The best performances are created in groups where we can also regularly laugh together."
A safe place
Sharon's classes provide a safe atmosphere where everyone can be themselves. "It is extraordinary to see how young people develop during the process," Sharon says. "Even those who find it a little exciting at first often grow through the confidence they gain. In the end, they all stand proudly on stage during the applause."
