In the theater workshop for young people, you get the chance to create a short performance with others. You work from a theme, an existing story or a script and explore different ways of bringing it to life on stage. In 14 lessons you work step by step toward a final performance, thinking together about the design and interpretation of the piece. The course concludes with a performance in the theater auditorium of Theater de Landing for an audience.

Program 

What to expect. 

• Getting to know each other and the basics of theater 

• Collection of materials (existing and own work) 

• Drafting a script 

• Learning and rehearsing texts 

• Thinking about design (lighting, sound, costumes, scenery) 

• Rehearsing for the final performance 

• Final public performance
  

Target 

14-15 years (2nd and 3rd grade v.o.). This course is suitable for young people who are interested in theater. It doesn't matter if you already have experience or are on stage for the first time. 

Lesson duration and number of lessons 

14 2-hour classes, plus an additional day of rehearsal and a final performance on Sunday. 

Tuesdays 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Notice, not every week there is class. In addition, sometimes there are other times and days. Check below for class dates.

Lesson dates: 4/2, 11/2, 25/2, 11/3, 18/3, 1 /4, 8/4, 15/4, 6/5 and 13/5, 18/5 (10:00-13:30 rehearsal morning), 3/6, 10/6, 17/6 and 21/6 (rehearsal and performance (to be determined at a later date) and 24/6 (evaluation).

Teaching Materials 

You do not need to purchase any materials yourself. 

Homework 

During the course, you will be assigned to learn the script's texts. 

Working form during the course 

The focus is on doing and trying out. You play, write and improvise. Together you will make choices and discover different ways to shape the story. Each lesson is practical and aimed at further developing your skills.

About the teacher 

Sharon Varekamp is an experienced theater teacher and director. She has taught theater classes at youth theater schools and worked with preliminary theater courses for many years. Sharon will guide you step by step so that you can take the stage confidently.
