In drama class 3, the basic skills of drama are further explored. You learn to relate to others, in addition to focusing on your own play. Theater is not only acting, but above all reacting. You do this by opening all your senses: watch and listen to each other!

We do theater exercises with the whole group, as well as in small groups, so we can look closely at each other's scenes and see what works well. We also make a start with playing from text. You learn to play dialogues with two or more children, but also monologues, in which you speak on your own. At the end of the year we create a beautiful performance together, complete with lights and sound in the theater.

Program

What to expect.

  • Lots of group exercises where you learn to pay attention to where others are on the theater floor, what they are doing and how you respond to them.
  • Creating theater from rhythm, so you learn to time your playing and text well.
  • Working with real theater texts and discovering how many ways you can say one text.
  • Learning to respond to each other and play emotions.
  • Final performance in the main hall where everyone gets a chance to show the best of themselves. In theater, you don't play a competition against each other, you work together - only if everyone goes all the way and supports each other will it be a beautiful end result!

Target

Group 7 and 8. No experience necessary.

Lesson duration and number of lessons

  • One one-hour class each week.
  • One school year.
  • Mid-year viewing class.
  • At the end (May/June) a presentation in a real theater, with lights and sound.

Teaching Materials

You don't have to buy anything. For the final presentation you may be asked to bring for example a white T-shirt and white pants, but we usually solve this by exchange or borrowing. During the lessons music is used and sometimes theater props, costumes or utensils. Also dialogues, monologues or book passages, mostly from the teacher, sometimes from the students.

Homework

In principle, no. Only towards the final presentation students have to memorize a limited number of phrases, so then practicing at home is helpful.

Working form during the course

Practice only: with the whole group together and, in addition, collaborative assignments in pairs or multiples.

Advantages

Why take this tonneelles at Platform C in Amstelveen?

  • Platform C offers a unique environment where all disciplines come together: visual art, music, dance and theater.
  • We inspire and learn from each other.
  • There is a fantastic, fully equipped theater for the final presentation. So after the year course you will be on stage in a professional lighting plan, made by real theater technicians, with sound and all. All your friends and family members can come and watch. How fun is that!

Result

After drama class 3 you know very well what ensemble playing is: you can make things up on stage by yourself, but you can also listen and react very well to the other players. You can apply this in improvisations, but also in monologues or dialogues, which we practice a lot. You dare to play for a large audience without embarrassment and know how to time your text, so that you will surprise your friends and family in the final presentation!

About the teacher

Teacher Els Willems has years of experience working with children, such as at Jeugdtheaterschool Rabarber in The Hague and Kunstencentrum Idea in Soest. In addition, she often directs young people and students, including at the Vossius Gymnasium where she now teaches. Els' great passion is to give children the self-confidence to shine together on stage, where everyone's part is equally important and the enjoyment of acting is paramount.
