Target

You can start clarinet lessons from age 6 to 7. Experience is not necessary; pleasure in making music is paramount.

Lesson duration and number of lessons

Group lessons (from 2 or more students): from 30 minutes. Individually, you can choose lessons of 20 minutes or longer, depending on the lesson package you purchase. You get 37 lessons per course year.

Teaching Materials

Young children (with small hands) start on the E-flat clarinet. You can rent these at music stores.
The b-flat clarinet (standard) is also available for rent or purchase.

You will need clarinet reeds to play (e.g. available from reeds.co.uk). The teacher will advise you which reeds are suitable.

In the first year, you get many copies from the teacher. Later you can purchase music books from stores such as Broekmans & Van Poppel.

Homework

To really enjoy making music, practice at home is important. Start with 10 to 15 minutes a day. If you play more, you will get better faster. In class we will work together on the pieces you have prepared at home.

Working form during the course

Clarinet lessons are above all a lot of doing: playing yourself. The teacher will accompany you on clarinet or piano. You also play with other students. That way you can hear how much fun playing together can be.
